Soft Shoe is a proud Sponsor of Tracks for Packs 5K

It’s Back to School Time for Madison County KY

This time of the year, parents are busy getting their students ready for the upcoming school year, with a full list of school supplies, clothing, shoes, backpacks and any extracurricular uniforms and/or registration fees. Although going back to school is an exciting time of the year, it can also be exhausting emotionally and financially. And unfortunately, many children in Madison County go without, due to financial restraints. Current statistics state that 21% of the population in Madison County, KY (79,904 people) live below the poverty line, which is higher than the national average of 14.7%. (Data USA)

In response to our local need, God’s Outreach along with the Eastside Community Church started the Tracks for Packs 5K Run/Walk event in Richmond KY in 2012. Soft Shoe is proud to be a sponsor of this event from the start, and this year we are a proud Platinum Sponsor of Tracks for Packs.

What is Tracks for Packs?

Tracks for Packs 5K began as a grassroots effort to assist those in the Madison County community who are hungry. Each month, the Madison Backpack Program sends more than 2,000 backpacks home with students in throughout Madison County schools. These backpacks are full of food that helps the students and their families survive the weekend without hunger pains. Supplying food and backpacks to so many students can be expensive. In the spring of 2012, a group of Madison County residents got together and decided to put on a fundraising event to benefit the Madison Backpack Program. The Tracks for Packs 5K was born!

In it’s first five years, Tracks for Packs 5K raised more than $105,000 for the Madison Backpack Program through the support of many local businesses and individuals. There are also more than 400 people who participate in the race each year with dozens of sponsors.

Event Fundraising Totals:

  • 2012 – $15,000
  • 2013 – $18,000
  • 2014 – $20,000
  • 2015 – $26,000
  • 2016 – $26,000

The 2017 Tracks for Packs 5K Run/Walk is on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at the Richmond Centre, Richmond, KY (The starting line is at the Fountain). Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the Race begins at 8 a.m.
