The Soft Shoe staff is excited to introduce the newest ‘member’ of their team, Albert, to their Richmond KY store.
Who is Albert? Albert is the latest technology foot scanning system, by Aetrex Worldwide Inc. This new and improved technology represents a major leap in foot health analysis from their iStep Foot Scanner. Aetrex saw the need to improve their foot scanner because other devices on the market would measure one or more aspects of the foot, but nothing had all the foot scanning analysis in a single system.
“The hard thing about developing hardware, compared with shoes, orthotics or even software, is when you’re creating something new, there are a lot of challenges,” said Larry Schwartz, CEO of Teaneck, N.J.-based Aetrex. “But the mandate to the team was, we want to capture everything.”
What does Albert do? The new scanning system, dubbed Albert, consists of a device that, like previous iterations, can measure pressure and sizing. It also conducts 3-D imaging, assesses pronation and has the ability to track gait. How does Albert accomplish this? This new foot scanner, which arrived at our store in early August 2017, features 18 digital cameras, 960 infrared LEDs and receptors, and over 5,000 gold plated barometric sensors.
What data does Albert provide? With this technology, Soft Shoe is able to give their customers detailed information about their feet, such as pressure points, arch height and pronation, which the software uses to provide scientific data to equip our staff to accurately recommend orthotic insoles, compression socks, running shoes, workboots and even dress shoes for your foot health needs. With this technology, our Soft Shoe staff is now equipped to recommend the right shoes for your foot and body.
How can the foot scan benefit you? The detailed analysis of a customer’s arch height and length provides the opportunity to thwart common foot ailments such as Plantar Fasciitis with a semi-custom orthotic that matches their specific need. When our staff know how to match the right orthotic or shoe with your foot, you will find more comfort as you walk, work, play, stand and run. The recommended orthotic or shoes can help ensure that the bones, ligaments and tendons in your feet and lower legs are aligned and positioned properly. This helps to ease pain and stress on the feet and can improve the functioning of the muscles over time.
How does it work? When a Soft Shoe shopper steps up to the machine, with the assistance of our trained staff, Albert will scan their feet separately and together, while a touchscreen video monitor and voice-over offers instructions. The entire process takes about a minute to complete. Afterward, the customer receives detailed information about their feet, such as pressure points, arch height and pronation, which the software uses to recommend an Aetrex orthotic. By entering their email, customers can later access the data on the Aetrex-owned site Myfeet.com.
With the recommended Aetrex orthotic selected and placed under your feet on Albert, you can rescan your foot to see and feel the difference. With the orthotic, you will see how the weight distribution and arch support greatly improve. (See illustration to the right.)
