My childhood is filled with memories of all kinds. Sitting above a small pond in a willow tree trying to spot frogs and crawdads while anxiously awaiting my mom’s snack delivery. Holding my mom’s hand while walking through a store and hiding behind her anytime a stranger’s eye locked on to me. (She told me I was the cutest little boy in the world and I believed her.) Sitting next to her on the couch in the evening, drinking sweet tea from a tall, green tupperware cup while watching the best TV shows the 80’s had to offer. Mama’s Family, Designing Women, and The Golden Girls were some of our favorites.
While it is obvious who had ownership of the remote control in our house, I loved those shows and still watch them today. My favorite character on The Golden Girls was Dorothy, and I remember her saying, “It’s not easy being a mother. If it were easy, fathers would do it.” I know things weren’t always easy for my mom, especially as my sisters and I grew older. My family lived modestly, but because of my mom, we were always nurtured, fed, and happy. I can’t remember a single moment that I didn’t feel loved. Now I get to watch her love on my sons and nephews, and I continue to learn from her.
With Mother’s Day on the horizon, I wanted to give a shout-out to a few of the moms of Soft Shoe, and some of our employees were eager to provide a tribute to their moms. Enjoy!

“My mom is my hero. She is always the person I can turn to when I need a laugh or someone’s shoulder to cry on. This past year has been pretty rough for her, but you could never tell because of the smile she constantly keeps on her face. She cares about her family, her students, and her community more than anyone I know. She is truly is the most amazing woman to ever walk this Earth!”

“When being asked what makes my mom so special many things come to mind. Selfless, independent, caring, loving, but also very tough. I 100% believe that all of these traits my mother possesses have molded me into the young woman I am today. She is my confidant, the person I take everything to, and my voice of reason. Happy Mother’s Day Mom I love you!”

“The older I get, the more I realize just how important my mom is to me. She is the reason for who I am today and I strive daily to make her proud. She sacrificed so much to raise me into the person I am, and for that I will forever be grateful. I hope she knows how Important she is to my sister and I, and I hope she has the best Mother’s Day ever!”

“I want to thank you for everything that I have learned from you growing up, as you have shaped me into the person I am today. I could not be more appreciative of the lessons that I have learned from you, the great memories you have brought me, and the experiences that the future holds with you. You have always treated those you encounter with kindness, love and positivity; I strive to become half the person that you are. Thank you for always showing me you care. I love you, Mom.”

“Besides teaching me how to survive in the world of adulting, my mom has taught me many of the values that I try to live my life by. She showed me what hard work looks like and how a Christian should live their life. All of these qualities have made me into the person I am today. She inspired my love for running and music. I do not know where I would be today without her.”

“My mother is one of the strongest people I know. She takes care of the family in a way I cannot describe. She will do anything for us. As much as we all make fun of each other, we love each other more than anything. Thank you so much for everything you do and being you. Love you ma.”
